ND got hit with a storm that shut down most highways across the state and the interstate. It was not pretty out and I know that we were actually on the edge of it. Yesterday morning started out sunny and beautiful. I thought about taking the girls out to play. Well, that turned around pretty quick. I had no idea we were supposed to get this nasty weather.
The rain started followed closely by the wind (of course) and then it was just a blizzard. Wow. We were not prepared for that.
Calving has just started with a few early heifers. One heifer calved while we were in Mexico, but the calf didn't make it. Calf number 2 was born on Thursday. Wes was feeding at the time so he kept an eye on her. Well, that heifer did not have a motherly bone in her body. The heifer walked away from the calf. When Wes went to check on the calf the mother came bolting back. She tried to take Wes and then she proceeded to try and beat the crap out of her calf. Wes had never seen anything like it before. After stealing the calf he put the calf with the first heifer that lost her calf hoping she would accept the new calf and still milk.
I am happy to report that the calf and her new mommy have paired up and the mean mommy will be going to town never to have another calf on this place again!
