Well, 2 dead in 2 days. This time it was a cow that bit the dust.
The cow herd is still out on cropland as they have been all winter just coming into the back feedlot pen to water.
This afternoon while Wes went out to feed the cows he found a 4 year old cow laying dead. Again she had indications of laying down wrong and not being able to get up due to the slight incline. Some of the signs you see in situations such as this are depressions in the dirt like a snow angel. It will be fanned out around her head and feet.
Calving season has barely begun here at HVR. I pray that the situation improves and we start seeing little calves running and bucking along side their mothers soon.
A group of heifers were synchronized and bred. That group has calved. Then a group of cows were synched and bred for a week later. They are just about ready to drop. After that will come the bull bred heifers and cows. It seems to have been a slow start to calving season so far.
I told Wes we need to start breeding for intelligence in the future.
