Today was a beautiful day in Western ND. The weather was in the 40s. The hubby got up early so he could get the needed hay bales out of the hay yard before the ground started getting soft and muddy. He's been doing this since the thaw began. The soil out here drives me crazy compared to what I am used to in WI. A little bit of rain in the summer and during this springtime thaw makes the roads TERRIBLE. Our driveway winds down a hill and it has been impossible to drive. Twice this week I thought is was going to pull me right into the ditch. Times like this remind me why I could never own a mini-van out here. With 4-wheel drive I barely got up the hill this week. The guys had to be careful about bringing tractors down the hill pulling anything.
The silver lining? I am getting scoria put on the driveway next week!!!! Scoria is a type of rock out here. It is used like gravel on the roadways. Unfortunately, unlike the granite gravel I am accustomed to in WI, scoria breaks down fairly quickly and becomes clay. Clay plus water equals the crappy mud roads I've been driving on lately.
But the weather being so nice put me in a much needed spring cleaning mood. I vaccuumed (and moved furniture), swept and scrubbed the floors. I scrubbed so hard I put a hole in my jeans. The picture below is the proof.
And to top it all off, I opened a yummy bottle of Spurgeon Vineyards Wisconsin Cranberry Wine. I told the twins they got to drink it when they grew up and became mommies. Now, that is what they keep saying to night. "I be a mommy and drink that."
