The Great Flood of 2009...

This is a cat sitting on a fence post around the garden. You might ask, "what is the cat doing?"
Well, waiting for the great flood of 2009, that's what.

Do you see the water back there between the rows of trees?
The Crooked Creek runs through the pasture there and normally you can't see the creek when you are standing on the deck. Obviously, you can now. I think that the cat was a bit worried about the water reaching his cat house.

Ah, the great flood of 2009. We will be telling the twins about their first winter for the rest of our lives I'm sure. The picture above is the creek behind the house. The channel you see where the water is rushing is the normal width of the creek.
Over the past couple of months as the snow began to fall and accumulate, the neighboring folk have had only one topic of conversation. The moisture. We all knew we would be in for a lot of spring runoff based on the amount of snow. Well, as I mentioned earlier, the temperature has warmed up.

Since Sunday, the snow hasn't stopped melting. And people keep talking about the last time it flooded around here. I don't know how many times I've already heard Wes say, "this is the second highest I've ever seen the creek."

For anyone that has visited us in western ND, you are probably having a very hard time imagining this place with water out of the creek banks. Water is rushing everywhere.
Here is the main road before you turn off into our driveway. Our place is on the right. We are pretty sure that the water will be going over the road sometime today. At the bottom of this hill is the bridge.
The water has less than two feet to rise before it starts to go over the bridge.
Darn it, I just deleted the picture of the cliff. That will give you a reference point for the water. I'll get it added as soon as Wes brings back the camera.
