Tessa got her feeding tube removed this afternoon! This is such a big step toward going home. She just needs to continue eating enough without the tube.
The girls started receiving iron supplements today and I will need to continue them once we are home. The neonatalogist has also put them on Neosure. This is a powder supplement that is added to any bottles they need after nursing. It increases the amount of calories in the breast milk they get. Although they girls are gaining weight on breast milk alone this supplement will help. Again, we will continue this at home until they reach the benchmarks set by their pediatrician.
The nurses have said that the girls should be heading home the beginning of next week. They will be put in open cribs (like the one pictured in a previous post). In the open crib they need to show that they can maintain their temperature as well as continue to gain weight. Then they need to pass a two hour car seat test.
I've already started all the paperwork that needs to be completed before they are released. It is getting so close and we are excited to finally get the girls home.
Audrey's weight today: 4 lb 6.2 oz
