The day has come and gone!
And I survived!
My training and running partner, Sarah, and I smiling in relief after the race.
I think that we would both say that the race was actually easier than we expected. It could be due to the fact it took us 36:21 to finish (we never pushed ourselves), but we were both fighting some serious health issues. Sarah had a nice chest cold going on and I was just coming off a 24 hour stomach bug. I had almost nothing to eat the previous 24 hours. I tried, but it all turned my stomach.
So, we finished. I didn't faint. And we WILL be doing it again!
Mommy's biggest cheerleaders!
Me, Katie and Sarah post race and pre-lunch. It was the first meal for me in 28 hours!
Katie had the luck of getting a stress fracture in her foot a week before the race.
I really think this race was cursed for all the things that happened. I arrived at a hotel in Mandan the night before only to realize I had forgotten my suitcase at home. It contained the all important things like a sports bra and running shoes!
My sweet husband packed up all 4 kids at 5:30 AM Saturday morning to bring me my suitcase. He deserves a medal for that.
(A small political message in the background. Vote NO on ND measure 5!!!!)
Meeting a social media friend in real life!
The race was such great fun. I started this training about 2 months ago. I went from not being able to run a half mile to being able to spit out 3.1 miles like nothing. I am in awe with what we can do if only we set a goal and go after it. People said I would hate it or get hooked. I LOVED it.
I am going to try to continue to run a couple times a week and maybe sign up for another 5K. But I know this, I need a running partner. It was so great to run with Sarah and so much fun. So, if anyone is willing to run with me let me know when and where!
