Cleaning the freezer...

As this pregnancy grows to an end (less than 12 weeks left) I've been doing a lot of thinking about my freezers.  We have your normal fridge/freezer in the kitchen, another one in the downstairs "kitchen" and 2 large chest freezers.  My strategy for breastfeeding my babies is feed and pump as much as possible in the beginning and freeze the leftovers.  This allows me to be done feeding/pumping by about 7 or 8 months and the baby just gets frozen breastmilk until they turn one.

While cleaning my "milk" freezer out downstairs in preparation for the impending arrival I found more breastmilk.  Let's just say that the kitties ate well that day!

I also took the opportunity to make mini-pumpkin/spice muffins and rhubarb macaroon.  You could say that I am on a mission to empty my freezers.  I'm trying to buy only fresh foods right now (milk, eggs, bread) and just use up what I already have on hand.

But here is the big question I have for you:  How do you remember what you put in there?

I have frozen meals that I've prepared, lots of frozen veggies/fruits from the garden and plenty of meat.  But then there are all the odds and ends.  Fish, butter, frozen bread dough, homemade cinnamon rolls, chocolate chips, and half bags of hashbrowns.  Am I that unorganized or do I just have too many freezers?

My thought is to make a list of what I put in the freezer and just cross it off when I take it out.  Keep it right by the freezer.  Any other ideas?

The steer we kept to feed out will be heading to the butcher in the next week which means I need room for beef, too.  This is following all the venison (summer sausage and country style) that just came back.  With all the red meat in there I am just hoping to keep room for milk.

My MIL came over last weekend and we cleaned out the tomatoes in the freezer by canning salsa and sauce.  A small dent, but much appreciated.
