The snow is slowly melting and the ground is drying out. Yesterday, the twins got to spend some quality time with daddy fixing fence in the calving pasture. Well, I just realized that it is no longer our calving pasture and we might need to come up with a new name for that pasture. They took the 4-wheeler out for a spin across the pasture. They got to see a worm! Apparently, they haven't seen one up close before. How did that happen? To hear the excitement in their voices telling me about the worm just makes you pause and remember to look through the eyes of your children at the wonders of the world around us.
After their adventure with dad they took a long nap before heading outside again. The ground has finally dried up so they all went out without snowpants and only wore spring jackets. They played with all their "new" toys from last summer that I dug out from the unattached garage where they have been stored all winter. While they played, I dug my rake out from the ice it was stuck in and started raking up all the dog poop and leaves from the yard.
I now have a blister on my hand and a pile of dog poop in the yard. Yay!
Hmm, I've debated about putting this next little tidbit of info in here. I certainly don't want child services to come knocking on my door. And I don't want Lil to be scarred for life from the razzing her sisters will give her some day about this. But, well, it is a little funny. Lil is one. She is curious. She started out eating rocks last week. Yesterday she moved to a handful of pink sand. I laughed and wiped out a lot of pink sand as she stuck her tongue out at me. Then she did the unthinkable. Remember that rabbit our cat was eating the other day? Apparently, the rabbit left a little something behind before it died. A turd! Lil had a rabbit turd in her mouth! I don't know how long she would have chewed on it if I wouldn't have caught her. Didn't it taste bad? Oh, I want to gag. Why would she do this to me...
They twins helped me start all kinds of seeds inside and I finished that job last night. My FIL's workshop downstairs is now my little nursery. I cleaned out the various guns (how did 7 guns accumulate there when we have 2 gun cabinets in the next room?) and scrap wood piled on the workbench, put in grow lights and arranged the seed starter flats. Can't wait for the seeds to sprout and get them outside.
Speaking of the guns, I must mention that there were NO guns in either gun cabinet! Wait, I take that back. My .22 was in there. I am counting our guns in my head right now and wondering where all of the other guns are. My guess is under or behind a pickup/tractor seat.
During this little adventure I found an "unknown" gun. This little beauty looked completely foreign to me. I swear I have never seen it before. I checked for bullets, worked the safety and the action, looked over the stock and strap and wondered who owned this gun. Gene, maybe? Upon closer inspection I found it to be a .243.
And then I about fell over. It is MY gun.
Wes bought me the gun a couple of years ago for coyote hunting. You might have noticed I've been a bit busy raising children and being pregnant since then and I've had little time to hunt in the past couple of years. I remember him buying the gun. He probably even let me hold it when he brought it home, but I have no recollection of this.
So, SURPRISE, I got a new gun last night! I'm excited to actually take it out and use it (someday).

Don't feel bad, Olivia ate rabbit poop in our yard when she was about that same age!! She survived. Ask Lance sometime about how she once got a sip of red eye by accident, too, instead of apple juice. That poor kid! And she's still kickin'!!!! :)
Oh, and she ate food off the floor of the mall in Fargo once too....
Wow, and I was allowed to have 2 more kids after that??!!! Geez!
Addy basically licked the floor at Costco last night. So far no signs of damage. At least Landry was eating Organic!
