Last week I failed my 1-hour glucose tolerance test. Therefore, I got to sit through the 3-hour test. FAILED! My fasting and 1 hour numbers were ok, but my 2 and 3 hour levels were high (not by much, but still high).
That means I have been diagnosised with gestational diabetes. At my 30 week appointment I met with a dietician. She set me up with a diet plan. Based on my current "normal" diet she doesn't see me having any problems controlling my glucose levels. The biggest change is adding in carbohydrates throughout the day. I also think she upped my caloric intake with the change. At this point I've gained 40 pounds and still have about 7 weeks to go. Not a bad number for the average twin gestation. I will have to test my glucose levels 4 times a day now and check for ketones once a day.
We got to hear the heartbeats again. Baby B was in the 150s and Baby A was 142. Baby B is still transverse across the top and Baby A is still heads down on my cervix. All in all, everything looks great. I will have another ultrasound in two weeks. I can't wait to see how much they have grown.
My belly measured in at 41 weeks. That means this is how big I would get if I was only having one baby. I could definitely deal with this size. I've been getting pretty uncomfortable in the last week and a half. So, in relation to my size, I think I am doing ok. I've talked with my boss about cutting back on my hours. He is fine with that. I think I might start taking Wednesdays off to break up the week since I am beat by Friday. Then maybe I will drop down to three days a week at the end when the weather really warms up.
28 weeks
At our 28 week ultrasound Baby A measure in at 2 lbs 6 oz and Baby B was 2 lbs 9 oz. That puts them in at the 35th and 44th percentile (50th percentile would be expected for a singleton). They are active and healthy!
