Starting the year off right...

My commitment to the new year is to get back into my blogging habit.  It has been a long tough December with, what, maybe one post.  I've got a lot to catch you up on.

We are going to be featured in a magazine!  Doesn't that sound impressive?
Ok, maybe not when I tell you that it is for Manure Manager.
That was my number one magazine of choice in my previous position with NDSU.
I highly doubt any of you read it.
Here's what the feedlot is looking like now days.

Wes busy at work dumping bales in the feed wagon.

Hungry heifers/steers waiting for the mornings ration.

The feedlot has been FULL the last few months and Wes has been putting a lot of time into it.  Thankfully, last week 9 semi loads of cattle left for Kansas.  The owners of those cattle had been telling us since about the beginning of November that they would be going home "next week."

Last week also brought the annual Christmas sale at the auction barn.  We generally sell bred heifers at that sale each year.  This year we sold the vast majority of our bred heifers right off the place, we kept 50 heifers back to add to our own herd, and only took in 23 heifers for the sale.  It was a great feeling sitting in the stands waiting for our heifers to sell knowing that we had already sold so many.

We are still having an open winter.  No snow to speak of yet.  A couple of dustings, but everything melted in a few days.  This Thursday we are suppose to be in the 50s and dropping down to the low 30s on Friday.

Wes has been taking advantage of the nice mornings by taking one of the girls with him feeding for an hour or so maybe once a week.  They LOVE it and it is the highlight of their day.  They even get to spend some time with Papa Gene.  The other day was spent watching him change oil in the tractor.  Of course that doesn't mean I get anything done in the house since I am out there, too.

I hope you have a wonderful 2012!
